This is my FAVORITE time of year. Big time. And with Christmas morning always taking place at our home – with lots of family – I am constantly searching for ways to make the big breakfast easier. So, I’m sharing this Overnight French Toast Recipe with you in case you need to take some of the pressure off!
This french toast casserole is as GOOD as it looks! Even better really, does your computer has smell-o-vision? Because MAN it smelled so good. Mini pitchers were placed around the table filled with syrup, and of course there were mimosas and fresh fruit. All the paper decorations added that festive touch – and at the same time let guests know exactly what to expect. Overnight French Toast Recipe
Ingredients
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sweet butter
2 T light corn syrup
2 tart apples
5 eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
1/2 c. raisins
1 loaf French bread
Maple Syrup
4 T powdered sugar
The night before you will be serving, combine the sugar, butter and corn syrup in a medium sized saucepan. Stir over medium heat until the mixture becomes syrupy. Pour into a 9 x 12 inch pan. Peel the apples and cut into rings, removing the core in each piece. Place apple rings on top of the syrup mixture in the pan. Sprinkle cinnamon on top. Slice bread into 3/4 inch pieces and layer on top of apples. In a medium sized bowl combine the eggs, milk and vanilla then pour over everything. Sprinkle raisins on top followed by the nutmeg. Cover the pan and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Slice and top with maple syrup and powdered sugar.
