bizz buzz: delovely details

While working on this month’s small business feature story, I remember that last year, I came across a small business that specializes in personalized wedding details – and I was quite intrigued. Upon further investigation, I realized it was owned by a cousin of mine! Yes, I have a very large family. We finally met each other, working on a project together of course, and I am excited to share with you all Nikki from Delovely Details.

party spotlight: artist birthday party

What do you get when you cross a rainbow of cake balls with an artist’s paint palette? Sheer genius! In the spotlight today, we have our Art Party printable birthday kit that was actually designed for my daughter’s birthday party. There are so many fabulous ideas, and plenty of beautiful printable decorations to match!

peace & human rights night 2013

Each December my children’s school throws an event to not only showcase the kids and their talents, but also to come together as a community and celebrate and enjoy each others company. The event is the 14th annual “Evening for Peace & Human Rights,” which commemorates 65 years since the passage of the UNDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights).

the not-so-serious family holiday card

I am now notorious for sending out non-traditional cards for the holidays. There’s just something about making a joke of our holiday cards, maybe it’s genetic? Or, the fact that it helps take the pressure off of having it look perfect. This family isn’t perfect, so why should the card be?! Now, the Barnes family has a love for pie, which might be my fault, so I decided to organize our first annual Holiday Pie eating contest. Each Barnes got their favorite kind of pie and we went for it!

DIY chalkboard gift wrap

So the whole world has been obsessed with chalkboard over the past year, including myself. I’ve also gone totally noir this Christmas and decorated all things in black and white. So OBVIOUSLY, I had to incorporate a little chalkboard, with a little artsiness, with some crafty bits and share it with you lovely people.

Atlas Pillow Stockings… with a surprise inside!

When you have a family as large as I do, you have to get creative when it comes to stocking stuffers. On Christmas Eve, we have about 30 for a sit down dinner and gift exchange – and to make the party more festive, we put up stockings along the mantle (although the mantle is sometimes not long enough!). Store bought stockings can sometimes be more than you want to spend, so why not use paper? You can actually make these out of any type of paper – grocery bags, leftover wrapping paper, butcher paper, construction paper.

holiday cake pop display

Every year, a good friend of mine hosts a Holiday Open House for all of the moms who met at our preschool. You would be surprised, there are a ton of us! This is one of those events where you are asked to bring some food to share – and you know I can’t cook! So, whats a girl to do but make cake pops. Lots and lots of cake pops.
